In a windowless cubicle in Beirut, American Michael Wells is being held hostage by Arab terrorists. His wife Lanie has stripped a room in his home of furniture in an attempt, at least symbolically, to share in his ordeal. She is held “captive” by a reporter who is overly ambitious and a cooly-efficent State Department representative. Should one gain notoriety by making the story of imprisonment a major accomplishment, or is it a matter of treating the story with professional detachment? Will Lanie gain the strength to fight for her release and, in turn, fight for Michael’s freedom?

Despite the protests claiming “No theatre in a graveyard,” the Vilna Ghetto theatre was created during the Nazi occupation of Lithuania. This historical theatre operated in the Jewish Ghetto from 1941 until 1943, lightening despair with song, satire, and criticism of the Nazi regime, and proving that theatre can provide courage and hope even in the midst of atrocity. This vivid and historically accurate play recounts the short life of the Vilna Ghetto Theatre as it denounced hate and celebrated the strength of the human will.
